Tech Issue #14

Bingo tilt problem

Many Bally bingos have a design that causes a tilt if the coin switch is activated too slowly. This is intended so that it will tilt

when someone tries to cheat using a string or wire to activate the switch instead of a coin. This often is a problem in home

use when you're not using coins and just tripping the switch with your finger. To deactivate this 'feature' bend the top switch

piece on #4D of the Control Unit up so that the switch cannot close. #4D is the 4th switch stack from the left on the Control Unit.

~ I haven’t tried this, but I assume it applies to most of the Ballys like my 1954 Surf Club below ~

~ The “Control Unit” is that monster down in the middle and is the primary-noise-maker in your Bally ~

The tech here is talking about the two banks of switches laying on the upper shelf – These are old-style

high-current A.C. switches and that is why they are so big and often mistaken for relays – Each switch is

multi-layered, each having more then one switch in the pile. The A, B, C, D references are to the individual

switches, starting in the pile from the bottom up – Before you commit, do some double-checking with the

bingo unplugged – Ohm test from the coinbox-mechanisim to the switch – etc – You want to be sure!

Be careful here, once you bend one of these things is permanent!

~ Some of the control units are different from one another! ~

~ Be careful in there, this is live A.C. circuitry when plugged in! ~
