Ok Ya All _ A New Sheriffs in Town!!

So, we know “50 Teeth” is one of the nomenclatures tied to the Reflex “Ratchet Assemblies” specifically tied to the “Step-up” gear as

seen in the Green Book on the Safari Bingo and based upon correlation with the Bally Grandstand Manual as an A-463-18 assembly.

OK, on the Reflex Unit Hugh Kown sent to me, the “Step-down” gear is clearly stamped while no stamp exists on the “Step-up” gear _ Hmmm!!

Please refer to the image above and the number “5” etched right in to the wheel surface of the “step-down” gear as shown!!

Now furthermore, my Surf Club also has a “5” engraved on this gear in this same position on that Reflex _ But no stamp on the step-up!

On my Big Time, the step-down gear is etched and the step-up gear is not – Also this was true also on my HiFi _ Hmmm!

So 3-out-of-3 of my bingos have had “numbered” stamps on the step-down gear and none of them have had stamps on the step-up gears,

and a 4th-module form Hugh also has this same structure!!

If we look at the Grandstand Manual _ The “Step-up” gear does not state a nomenclature related to a “#x” part number, like all of the other

gears _ Instead it is the only gear related to the “number of teeth” and is the only gear we see in any document tied to the step-up position.

Now if we look at Phil’s pages and the Reflex Adjustment Guides _ His Reflex has a “3” stamped into the step-down and nothing stamped

into the step-up gear _ Following the same structure….

But Phil’s step-down gear does follow the stamping format for this gear location with a “3” which aligns to the part numbers shown below.

So the immediate question is: “Do the “5” and the “3” on the step-down gears have any correlation to the amount of teeth on the gear.”

Well likely, but it’s not one-to-one, instead it looks more like a simple part-numbering layout where there are gears 1-thru-5 – etc.

Which in-turn parallels typical industry part numbering schemes seen throughout the manufacturing for years – From the 40s until now…

It’s my guess that gear “5” which is not defined anywhere, is the gear stamped “5” and most likely the default gear Bally placed in the bingos.

I’d also be willing to bet, that no bingos have a gear stamped #1, it’s my guess that it was a gear used only in the One Balls!!

To stick my neck out further _ I’d say “Phil’s #3” is a gear that keeps the bingo functioning in the Medium earning range” as shown here

and is a true gear, corresponding to this Bally Grandstand numbering we see above.

Providing the ultimate proof that the Reflex Unite is the same assembly, dating back into the One Balls!!
