Subject: coin meter

Hi Danny

Did I show you the coin meter on a hinge trick?  I think I meant to but didn't.

I really get a kick out of this one.

Gambling

Every body knows these machines were used to gamble.  They just would not admit it.  That even seems to be the key here.  Just don't admit it.  Pretend we're not gambling.  Yep....That's the ticket.  Pretend we don't use these to gamble.

Apparently the coin meters go a long way to defining these as a gambling machine.  Bally apparently made them optional and there must be a reason for that.  Why make a two dollar meter an option?  I mean really what an insignificant piece when considered in the context of the complicated machinery that makes it a bingo.  Well it might be a very significant part if that is what actually defines it as an illegal gambling device.

Anyway, enough babbling, I've seen them do different things with coin meters.  Take them out or put coverings on them.   One guy cleverly re-labeled his coin meters as "Hour" meters.  That was a nice try and some damn fine pretending if I don't say so myself.

This one here is my favorite. They put the coin meter on a hinge behind the coin box.

You could open the coin door, pull out the box, reach back in there and swivel the meter out, write your numbers down

and then push it back out of site.  Now clearly, this has to prove there is no gambling going on.  I think it's awesome.
