Bally Fun Play _
The
game name here is a “street-spin” someone gave a Fun Spot 61`
It’s
kind of a great name too for one of these, holding well with the arcade style
intended`
I
haven’t posted one of these in a long long time, but
I kind of like this one`
People
having fun at the circus, at the fair, playing around`…Fun Play
Toss in that this is a pinball`….Fun
to play and well, it’s a good name`
At
the end of 1960 design
at Bally took a bit of an odd turn`…a little bit of
a twist in style`
All
of a sudden after advanced games like Magic Lines, Magic Numbers, and a few
Magic Screens
Bally
seems to step back-in-time a bit and started releasing the Fun Machines
Not
everywhere, but these started popping up in the Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York
areas`
And
for a reason too, to help work around the new laws and restrictions hitting the
Bingos
Bare-bones
with no known and obvious advanced features.
No replays counter storing games that can be paid off,
instead
you score points. You had to start the next game with a coin, so these weren’t
considered free play - etc
Sure,
these were still Bingos, but were definitely trying to fly under-the-radar as
simple pinballs`
_
Arcade games, not Bingos _
It
kind of worked too, during the crazy crackdowns plenty of these were out on
Route
But
eventually the “faint” disguise would fail and these two would be
targeted/outlawed`
Hence,
why this machine finally got a name change`…one more delay tactic to keep
it
out in the taverns/bars earning money for the owner/operator - profit`
